This Lord’s Day we return to a regular schedule for preaching. In the morning service we will consider Mark 12:41-44. The sermon is entitled “Proud Men and Poor Widows.” We will consider why this account of the poor widow who put in all that she had to live on is given immediately after Christ’s assessment of the scribes. In the evening we will begin the third chapter of Titus. In the first eleven verses, Paul imparts a fourfold responsibility to Titus for his work of shepherding the churches. We will begin to consider the first of those, a faithful shepherd’s responsibility to remind believers of how they are to relate to an unbelieving world.

This Lord’s Day we will spend our time in Mark and Titus. In Mark 12:28-34 we will hear our Lord’s answer to a scribe’s question regarding the greatest commandment. We will see that God’s greatest commandment also speaks to man’s greatest need. In the evening service we will hear God’s instruction for Christian slaves. We will consider the slave’s life, and ask how God’s instruction for Christian slaves speaks to our own world and our own lives.
Lastly, as part of the evening service we will have Nathan Ramirez’s ordination and say goodbye to him, Amber, and their children. Pray for them, and pray for the success of God’s Word as we approach worship this Sunday.

Title: The Double Ignorance that Destroys
This Lord’s Day we will see a third attempt to discredit Jesus on the same day. This time it’s the Sadducees, and this time it’s with an absurd theology question. Jesus not only answers the question, He identifies two types of ignorance that will destroy them, and anyone who persists in unbelief.

This Lord’s Day we will take a break from the book of Titus to consider our Lord’s message to the church at Ephesus (Revelation 2:1-7). As you remember, the church at Ephesus had many things that Jesus commended in them. But the one glaring problem was that they had moved away from their first love. In the morning service we will examine ourselves by the commendations they received from Christ, by His correction of them, and by His charge to them. In the evening service we will continue our study of the book of Mark (12:13-17). Spies from the Pharisees and Herodians came to Jesus looking to entrap Him by His words. We examine the first of their “test” questions, and we will worship our Savior as we see the power of His purity and wisdom.
Songs we will sing this week include the following, provided in a playlist here:
- A Mighty Fortress is Our God
- How Deep the Father’s Love for Us
- Only a Holy God

Title: Jesus and the Wedding at Cana
In the Gospels, we often read stories of Jesus that hint at who he really is and what he came to do. These stories are not explanations of who Jesus is, but rather Jesus demonstrates who he is by his actions and comments. John 2 is such a story. Jesus is attending a wedding with his family and disciples. When the wine runs out, Jesus performs the first of his “signs” by changing water into wine (2:11), thus keeping the wedding festivities going. Why would Jesus do this? And what does the “sign” say about his person and work? Why would Jesus decide to change water into wine as the first of his signs to show the world who he really is?

This Lord’s Day we will be taught from Mark 12:1-12 and Titus 2:6-8. In Mark 12 our Lord gave a parable that exposed the plans and motives of the religious leaders of the Jews who confronted Him in the temple. We will see God’s marvelous doing of taking the stone that the builder’s rejected and making it the cornerstone.
In Titus 2, we will see what the church is to teach younger men. Manhood is under attack in our culture, and there is much confusion (even in the church) about what should characterize Christian men. We look forward to worshiping our God around His Word.
Songs we will sing this week include the following, provided in a playlist here:
- Psalm 46
- Raised to Life
- Grace So Glorious
- Jesus Thank You

Text: John 6:22-39
In John 6 we read about two famous stories which occur back-to-back, the first that of Jesus feeding the five thousand (6:1–14), and the second of Jesus walking on the water (6:15–21). Immediately following these events, Jesus makes his way to the other side of the Sea of Galilee only to find that the crowds are still following him in droves. In these accounts we see that the reason for the multitude’s presence was the attraction of the “signs” that Jesus wrought. In our passage this Sunday morning, we will see how so many people seek Jesus but mostly for the wrong reasons, or with wrong methods, or in the wrong places. Those who truly look to him in faith, however, are explained by God, accepted by God, and secure in God.
