Text: Psalm 112
Title: “Praising God for Godliness”

When God’s people heed God’s word it is the wisest choice they could ever make. Godliness is great gain. It is not only a life that holds promise for an eternal future, it is the only satisfying life right now. Holiness and happiness are partners. The way of obedience holds the sweetest fruit that life has to offer. Psalm 112 tells us that story.

Text: Colossians 3:12-13
Title: “Why Forgiven People Must Forgive”

There is only one man who could have ever claimed that he had no need to forgive trespasses because he committed no trespasses. That same man, the Son of God, the Lord of Glory, provided the greatest gift of forgiveness the universe will ever know. The sinless one paid for the forgiveness of those who sinned against Him.

Those of us who have been saved by Christ can’t claim sinlessness like our Lord. Anything we forgive is not worthy to be compared to what we have been forgiven. And if a person has truly been forgiven, deep within their heart they know that their sins are greater than anything they would ever have to forgive—even when they find it difficult to forgive. This Lord’s Day we will see four reasons why forgiven people will be characterized by forgiveness. Four reasons why forgiven people must forgive.

Songs we will sing this week include the following, provided in a playlist here

  1. Come Thou Almighty King
  2. Psalm 46
  3. There is a Fountain
  4. Lord of Lords

Come Support our FCS Basketball Team in the Playoffs!

Come Support our FCS Basketball Team in the Playoffs!

Our school’s varsity men’s basketball team has performed exceptionally well this season, earning a mark of 12 wins and no losses in district play, and securing a district championship in only the second year of the young program’s history.

The team has additionally been ranked in the top 10 state-wide since November by coaches in our division (the team is currently #5 in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools poll, and #6 in Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll).

These young men have worked extremely hard, and their work has been rewarded with a #1 seed in the TAPPS 1A state playoffs.

We cordially invite all our Founders family to come out and support your team this Saturday night, February 17, for the first round of the playoffs. The game will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Providence Classical School (18100 Stuebner Airline Rd, Spring, TX 77379).

With a win, the team will move on to play Tuesday evening, February 20th in the area round.

Text: 2 Timothy 1:6-7
Title: “Four Reminders for Zealous Ministry”

The book of 2 Timothy is Paul’s final New Testament letter. He makes clear that he is writing with the awareness that the end of his life is near (2 Tim 4:6-8). He communicates concern about a great many things, but he emphasizes one thing in particular in the first chapter—Paul is concerned that Timothy take up the mantle of ministry with zeal. He reminds Timothy to stir again the gift of God that was given to him. When we listen to verses 6 and 7 of the first chapter, paying attention to the context in which they were given, we see how Timothy’s mentor exhorts him to zealous ministry. We are reminded of how our ministries must remain zealous as well. Our outline is as follows:

Song we will sing this week include the following, provided in a playlist here:

  1. Praise to the Lord
  2. All Creatures of Our God and King
  3. It is Well with My Soul
  4. Psalm 46 (Lord of Hosts)

Text: Matthew 12:33-37
Title: “What Words Reveal”

This Lord’s Day we will see that man’s heart condition is revealed in his speech. Jesus has been maligned by the Pharisees. Our Lord makes clear to them that their judgments are illogical, they are sinful, and they are dangerous. But Jesus does more than identify the nature of their statements, He gets to the root cause for them. Their words are worthless because their hearts are wicked. Jesus speaks of three judgments against them. But these judgments apply to us today, too. They reveal what our hearts reveal (what they say about us):

  2. Raised to Life
  3. We Sing as One

Preparing for Worship: January 21, 2018

We will spend this Lord’s Day in Psalm 47 for the morning service and 2 Corinthians 11:16-21 for the evening service.

In the morning we will celebrate God as King under the following headings:

  1. The Celebration of God’s Universal Rule (vv. 1-2)
  2. The Celebration of God’s Sovereign Love (vv. 3-4)
  3. The Celebration of God’s Ascension to the Throne (vv. 5-7)
  4. The Celebration of God’s Exercise of Authority (vv. 8-9)

In the evening, we will listen to Paul’s preparation for the “Fool’s Speech.” He sets the stage by reminding us that pride is foolish (vv. 16-17), and pride is fleshly (vv. 18-21). It is a great example of how to answer a fool according to his folly (Proverbs 26:4-5), and how human boasting is to be abhorred.

Songs we will sing this week include the following, provided in a playlist here

  1. Come Thou Almighty King
  2. His Mercy is More
  3. You Are Worthy of Your Glory
  4. O Lord, My Rock and My Redeemer
