Text: Mark 14:43–52
Title: “Betrayal, Fear, and Beauty”
The resurrection makes clear what Christ’s crucifixion really was. If Christ was not raised from the dead, then we are still in our sins, and our faith is vain. But He is risen! His resurrection declared that the crucifixion was exactly what the Bible declares that it was: a substitutionary death on the part of the Son of God that atoned for all the sins of all those who trust in Him for salvation. On this Lord’s Day, as we celebrate the resurrection, we see Christ delivered into the hands of sinners. We see the greatest betrayal in human history. And yet, we will also see that the captive was in charge of the captivity. Against the dark backdrop of Judas’ act of betrayal, and the disciple’s abandoning fear, we will see the beauty and majesty of the Savior.
