Preparing for Worship: August 27, 2017
Text: 2 Corinthians 7:5-16
Title: “Evidences of Godliness That Encourage the Heart”
This Lord’s Day we pray for weather that allows us to meet. If the Lord should will that, then we will focus on spiritual responses that encourage the hearts of godly people.
The Christian life includes learning to respond to sin and failure. Not only must we learn how to respond to our own sins and failures, we must learn how to respond when others sin against us. In our study of 2 Corinthians, Paul is a model of how one responds when wronged. He had acted as a faithful shepherd when he warned and confronted the Corinthians concerning their sin (and the danger of false teachers) by means of a severe letter. In the text we come to this Sunday, we see how he was comforted by the way the Corinthians responded.
Last Sunday we saw that he was comforted by their godly loyalty to him. This Lord’s Day we see five additional evidences of their godly response to his letter, evidences that encouraged his heart:
- LOYALTY (REVIEW)
- GENUINE REPENTANCE
- COMMITMENT TO HOLINESS
- SPIRITUAL CLARITY
- REVERENT OBEDIENCE
- LEGITIMATE CONFIDENCE
Songs we will sing this week include the following, provided in a playlist here:
- New Again
- Behold the Christ
