Preparing for Worship: December 10, 2017

Text: Mark 9:9-13Title: “After Glory”

Most believers have had a special time in their Christian life that they might refer to as a “mountain top experience.” Maybe it was a weekend retreat, or a ministry camp, or just a specially impacting worship service. It is safe to say, however, that none of us has ever had a mountain top experience like Peter, James, and John when they witnessed the transfiguration. Those three men received a glimpse of kingdom power. They experienced the glory of God’s Son, veiled in humanity, unveiled before their eyes. This Lord’s Day we meet with the instruction that followed that experience. We listen as Jesus teaches His disciples immediately after the glorious experience. What they hear won’t fully dawn on them until after the cross and the resurrection, when they will be prepared to process the message of the transfiguration.

Last week we looked at:

          I. THE SETTING
          II. THE SIGHT
          III. THE SKITTISH RESPONSE
          IV. THE SINGULAR FOCUS

This week we will examine:

          V. THE SILENCE (vv. 9-10)
VI. THE SEARCH FOR CLARITY (vv. 11-13)

Songs we will sing this week include the following, provided in a playlist here:

  1. Come All Ye Faithful
  2. Hark the Herald Angels Sing
  3. His Mercy is More
  4. O Lord, My Rock and My Redeemer
