Preparing for Worship: March 19, 2017
Text: Mark 4:13-20
Title: Four Kinds of Hearers
This Lord’s Day, we return to Mark 4 and the parable of the sower/soils. We first encountered this parable in Mark 4:1-9. After Jesus gives the purpose of teaching in parables (4:10-12), we now come to Christ’s explanation. It’s an opportunity for each of us to examine how we hear the Word of God and to receive God’s answer as we encounter it in this text. Those who receive the seed of God’s Word “with joy” (4:16) will bear fruit. And those who do not receive his Word, they “immediately they fall away” (4:17). May God stir up a desire in our hearts to know his Word!
In the evening we will return to consider Leviticus 19:32: “You shall stand up before the gray head and honor the face of an old man, and you shall fear your God: I am the Lord.”
