Text: Mark 15:16–20
Title: “The Mocking of God”
Something noticeable in the biblical accounts of Christ’s sufferings is how restrained the descriptions are. The biblical evangelists didn’t focus on Christ’s physical sufferings in the way that we might expect. Rather, what they emphasize is the humiliation of it all. The brutality is noted. The cruelty is noted. But what seems most astounding to the biblical writers is the way in which the Son of God was mocked. This Lord’s Day we will look at how Jesus was mocked by the soldiers who served Pilate. We will consider lessons from that mocking that instruct us about fallen mankind, about our majestic Savior, and about our own lives.
