Preparing for Worship: October 22, 2017
On October 31st, 1517, 500 years ago, Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the wall of All Saints’ Church in Wittenberg, located in modern-day Germany. What began as a published critique on the excesses of the Roman Catholic Church turned into what we now recognize as the Reformation. We summarize the Reformation by referring to five famous statements that point to the exclusive confessions of biblical Christianity.
- Scripture alone
- Faith alone
- Grace alone
- Christ alone
- To the glory of God alone
This Lord’s Day morning and evening we will set our attention on Romans 4:1-8. We will concentrate on Sola Gratia (grace alone), and see how God’s plan to save sinners through faith alone in Jesus Christ (Sola Fide) perfectly accords with our highest authority (Sola Scriptura). We will be reminded that our salvation is in our Savior, Lord, and King (Solus Christus), and is to the glory of God alone (Soli Deo Gloria).
Songs we will sing this week include the following, provided in a playlist here:
- We Sing as One
- Shine Into Our Night
- Before the Throne of God Above
- I Will Be Still
- Here is Love
