About Founders

For God's Pleasure and Glory

Founders Baptist Church exists for God’s pleasure and to bring glory and honor to His name and the name of His Son, Jesus Christ. We are devoted to the equipping of the saints, worship of our God, watchcare of our members, and being a witness to the lost world of the grace and mercy of our God toward them.

Since 1977

Our Story

In 1977, Memorial Baptist Church in Houston saw a need for gospel outreach in the growing suburb of Spring, TX and thus Spring Memorial Baptist Mission was birthed on a plot of land on the corner of Sciacca Rd and Aldine Westfield Rd, where the church has continued to meet for almost 50 years.

Our current Pastor, Richard Caldwell, was called in 1998 at the age of 34. For nearly 30 years, he has faithfully preached the Scriptures verse-by-verse, teaching through the entire New Testament. During that time, the church adopted a new Constitution and By-Laws, implementing a new manner of governance through a body of elders. In 2005, the church’s name was changed to “Founders Baptist Church” — reflecting sincere and growing biblical convictions regarding a reformed view of soteriology and a commitment to New Testament ecclesiology.

Through the years, the Lord has continued to provide resources, buildings, and godly leadership as the church has grown and expanded its ministries. In 2011, Founders Christian School was launched as a ministry of the church and in the classical tradition. The Pastors Seminary was established in 2026 to provide theological education for the purpose of equipping the next generation of pastors to faithfully serve the Lord’s church.

More important than numbers and buildings is the doctrinal foundation for the spiritual life of the congregation. Sound doctrine, spiritual leadership, and the faithful service of the saints is what makes Founders Baptist Church unique. The church—its elders, deacons, and members—confess that we exist for God’s pleasure and to bring glory and honor to His name and the name of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Statement of Faith

Five Principles of Faith and Doctrine

Because we believe that the Holy Bible is the Inspired, Infallible, and Inerrant Word of God, it alone is the basis and authority for everything we believe and practice. These five essential, non-negotiable statements are the foundation and framework of our church.

01

A High View of God

God is absolutely sovereign in all things. The church is established and exists for His glory alone. God is directing and working all things after the counsel of His own will.

Ps 22:28; 33:6-9; 115:3; Dan 4:34-35; Isa 40:17-18; Rom 9:13-29; Rev 4:11
02

A High View of Scripture

Because the Bible is the Inspired, Infallible, and Inerrant Word of God in the original language passed down to us without change, it is the absolute and final authority on all matters.

2 Tim 3:16; 2 Pet 1:19-21
03

The Preaching of Sound Doctrine

Maintaining a high view of God and a high view of Scripture necessitates the preaching, teaching, and practicing of sound doctrine. Doctrine always precedes duty.

2 Tim 4:1-5
04

Personal Holiness

Though we are in the world, we are not of the world. We are accountable to God and to each other for what we do and how we live, for we have been bought and are not our own. We belong to Christ.

Matt 18:15-17; 1 Cor 6:18-20; 2 Cor 7:1; 1 Pet 1:18; Eph 5:3-12
05

Spiritual Authority

God himself has established order in every area of our lives, and the church is no exception. God in scripture has clearly given us the structure of authority for the church. Christ is the head of the church and He mediates His rule through the shepherding of godly elders (pastors) (Col 1:18; 1 Pet 5:1-4). These elders (pastors), having a high view of God and scripture, being devoted to the preaching, teaching and practicing of sound doctrine, and being examples of personal holiness before the congregation, are responsible to lead the church. The Bible teaches that the congregation is accountable to the elders (pastors) and that the elders (pastors) are accountable to God. Therefore, all decision-making authority is vested in the elders (pastors), who shepherd the church (Acts 15:6-21; Heb 13:17; 1 Tim 5:17).

Col 1:18; 1 Pet 5:1-4; Acts 15:6-21; Heb 13:17; 1 Tim 5:17
Becoming a Member

Membership

Membership is about more than attending church meetings. Members commit to joining a spiritual family that provides encouragement and support. They are called to a higher degree of responsibility, service and sacrifice. Our elders and leaders pledge to assist our covenant members with care, counsel, prayer and teaching. We hope that, as the Lord leads, you make a covenant to be part of our church family.

Members at Founders are those who have:

  • Publicly professed their faith through Scriptural baptism
  • Met with one of the elders for a membership interview
  • Made a commitment to abide by the membership covenant of Founders
  • Been received as members of the church by the elder body

We want you to make an informed decision about joining our church, so we provide a class covering what it means to be a member at Founders and our beliefs and distinctives, which is offered at least twice yearly.

If you are interested in membership at Founders, please contact our Family Pastor, CJ Malott, to schedule a meeting.
